SOLVED - LM 19 - "NVIDIA X Server settings" ... how do I get this to work again?

Hi.

With 18.3 this worked fine.

I did a fresh install of LM 19 today and installed the "NVIDIA X Server settings".

However, the "NVIDIA X Server settings" are blank.

How can I get this to work again?

That's the open source driver. You need the proprietary driver. Open Driver Manager and install it from there.

The LM 19 Drive Manager says "1 proprietary driver in use".

"This device is using the recommended driver.
nvidia-driver-390 (recommended)
Version 390.48-0ubuntu3
NVIDIA driver metapackage"

I just had to reinstall LM 19 because I was locked out and didn't know how to fix this:

"Linux Mint 19 Tara username-System-Product-Name-ttyl

After reinstalling LM19, I again installed the Nvidia drivers, This time they install and all is working well.

Thank you for your assistance.

Now to find out what that above problem is, and if it is possible to use the new System Snapshot from out side LM 19.

=== Linux Mint 19 ... How to set Screen Resolution and Refresh Rate ===
1. Install Nvidia driver via
Menu / System Settings / "Administration" heading at the bottom / Driver Manager
2. To test that the Nvidia driver is installed, open the terminal and type
inxi -Gx
3. If the Nvidia driver is installed, the read out will say:
drivers: nvidia (unloaded: modesetting,fbdev,vesa,nouveau)
4. Install "NVIDIA X Server Settings" via
Menu / Software Manager
5. Open "NVIDIA X Server Settings", and change second option from the top, "X Servcer Display Configuration"
Set screen resolution and refresh rate.
6. Click "Apply" and then click "Save to X Configuration file"
7. Test that the settings are saved by closing the NVIDIA X Server Settings" program, then open and look at second option from the top, "X Servcer Display Configuration"
8. To make this permanent at boot, create:
Menu / System Settings / "Preferences" heading second from the top / Startup Applications / Add / Custom command
9. In all three fields, Name / Command / Comment, enter (copy and paste the line below)
"xrandr --output DP-0 --mode 2560x1440 --rate 165.00"
Leave the "Startup delay" at the "0" zero, default.
Click "Save"

Troubleshooting:
1.
If the Nvidia driver is not installed correctly, it is worth considering reinstalling Linux Mint or messing around purging files - with a new install, it is perhaps faster to simply reinstall Linux Mint.
2.
This will be blank if the Nvidia driver is not installed properly.

In LM 18.3 this worked, but not so in IM 19
xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --mode 2560x1440 --rate 165.00
In LM 19 I tested this, and it seems to be working
xrandr --output DP-0 --mode 2560x1440 --rate 165.00

Notes:
DVI-I-1
This is the older monitor connection. Google for an image.
DP-0
This is a Display Port, what modern LCD monitors use. Needed for high resolution and refresh rates.
