Nvidia driver issue

I was already using graphics-drivers ppa...and for whatever its worth it was fine on 18.3

Graphics: Card-1: Intel HD Graphics 5500 bus-ID: 00:02.0
Card-2: NVIDIA GM108M [GeForce 840M] bus-ID: 04:00.0
Display Server: x11 (X.Org 1.19.6 ) drivers: modesetting (unloaded: fbdev,vesa)
Resolution: 1920x1080@60.00hz
OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2)
version: 4.5 Mesa 18.0.0-rc5 Direct Render: Yes

So the lsmod bit got me thinking (because lsmod nouveau was also blank). I can sudo modprobe nvidia, log out, and then when I log back in nvidia is enabled...so just need to figure out how to get it to work on boot
