I could not install AMD Radeon Software AMDGPU-PRO Driver for Linux

Post by najeb3 » Sat Sep 08, 2018 10:21 am

Hello,,

I have DELL inspiron 1546 running:

Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia 64-bit
Kernel Linux 4.10.0-38-generic x86_64
MATE 1.18.0

I was wondering why most of the steam games are not working and I found that the problem is with the Graphics card Driver.
when I run the command:

Code: Select all

lshw
I get the following information regarding the display:

Code: Select all

description: VGA compatible controller
product: RV710/M92 [Mobility Radeon HD 4330/4350/4550]
vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
                physical id: 0
                bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0
                version: 00
                width: 32 bits
                clock: 33MHz
                capabilities: vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom
                configuration: driver=radeon latency=0
                resources: irq:27 memory:d0000000-dfffffff ioport:2000(size=256)
then I went to this link: https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articl ... stall.aspx
to download the AMD driver.
after trying the system check I found that no packages installed. So, after proceeding with the instructions and when I reached the Install section I got:

result
How come unsupported OS ?

It is AMD that have dropped linux support for your graphics card. Your only option is the open source ati/radeon drivers that are included in Mint.

Thanks for the reply.
Is there a tutorial or page includes step by step method to install the open source ati/radeon ?
because very basic simple games can not just run.

You are already using the correct driver. From the output on your first post:
configuration: driver=radeon latency=0
