Post by henriqueloureiro » Mon Sep 24, 2018 7:50 pm

Hi.
I install MINT 19 in a ACER F15. Iḿ having trouble with the NVIDIA card

I cant configure the "modesetting"

Response from inxi -G
Graphics: Card-1: Intel HD Graphics 620
Card-2: NVIDIA Device 179c
Display Server: x11 (X.Org 1.19.6 )
drivers: nvidia (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) FAILED: modesetting
Resolution: 1366x768@60.00hz, 1920x1080@60.00hz
OpenGL: renderer: GeForce 940MX/PCIe/SSE2
version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 390.48

On the Nvidia X setting I cant configure the settings of the monitor.
I want to work with the LCD from the notebook and the others 2 monitors from the VGA and athe HDMI conection of the notebook.
Can someone help me?

The inxi output is probably misleading, anyway you don't need the modesetting driver while Nvidia driver active.

Did you try the Mint Display utility instead ?

First I try with display
Display dont find the third monitor in HDMI. If I remove the HDMI connector and insert it again, the Display show it, but if i click in "APPLY" the HDMI monitor is removed and I return two the two monitors again (LCD from the Notebook, and the VGA monitor)
- eDPI-1 and DPI-1 is the name of this two monitors. I can see it with the xrandr command.

The modesetting driver is an Xorg built-in driver, you can't remove it. Anyway as the driver is not used removing it would not help. Can't help much for setting up Xorg with 3 displays.

Hello Laurent85,
First I went with my notebook in my office and try configured the 3 monitors with 2 new monitors 1 VGA and 1 HDMI. It configured just perfect. I think that the problem was with my old LCD monitor and the HDMI to VGA Adapter.
The problem with the NVIDIA X Server Settings was that I dont read the message
"PRIME Displays cannot be controlled by nvidia-settings and must be configured by an external RandR capable tool. The display is show in the layout windows above for informational purposes only"
Sorry about my mistake.
Thanks for the Help.
