Hello
I am not posting a question but a possible answer to anyone having screen resolution problems - as a newbie to the forum and having done a fresh install of mint my screen resolution was not correct - tried for ages via the search facility and google with various answers - finally fixed with a new vga cable - as simple as that.

Yep, that's the usual cause if the screen resolution is not detected correctly. Always the first thing I suggest. You should still mark your own thread as [SOLVED] so others can find it as a solution like you intended.
