Hi, i have a problem witch changing settings - i just cant do this. Nvidia display configuration is blocked by "Prime displays cannot be controlled by nvidia-settings" and in the - let's say - OS Display Configuration i can change almost nothing - there is only few options available. I want to change my monitor refresh rate for example, but i cant. I made research about this problem and found nothing which would help me.
I use notebook and one monitor connected via HDMI. My GPU is nvidia 1050m. NAME="Linux Mint" VERSION="19 (Tara)" 4.15.0-36-generic. Nvidia driver version 390.77. X-server version 11.0, vendor 1.19.6, nvcontrol version is 1.29.

Nvidia-settings can only be used to configure displays on ports that are physically connected internally to the Nvidia GPU. On your laptop the HDMI port must be connected to the Intel GPU.

You need to post some additional info. Open the Terminal, use these commands and post the output:
inxi -SMC and xrandr --prop

What is the brand and model number of the monitor and are you using any adapter to connect it?

What refresh rate or anything else do you want to change?

I want change my refresh rate to 75hz. I want also change my RGB Composition to full (On windows: CLICK. With xrandr it doesnt work. Setting RGB broadcast cause that screen "blink" one time and that's all the effect.

First try to get the 1920x1080 at 75 Hz resolution.

Use these commands in the Terminal:

Use the command xrandr to check if 75 Hz is being used.

Did you mean that you tried using one of these commands. Full is the default value:

Note: Some monitors/TVs support both color range. In that case an option often known as Black Level may need to be adjusted to make them handle the signal correctly. Some TVs can handle signal in limited range only. Setting Broadcast RGB to "Full" will cause color clipping. You may need to set it to "Limited 16:235" manually to avoid the clipping.

However, I think the Broadcast RGB option only works with the Intel driver. For Mint 19, the default driver is modesetting. To switch to the intel driver, do these steps:
Use this command to create an xorg.conf file: sudo touch /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Use this command to open the file for editing: xed admin:///etc/X11/xorg.conf

Add these lines:

The BusID line may be different. Use the command inxi -Gx to get the correct one. If the output says

Reboot or logout and back in. If you can’t get back to the desktop, then press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to enter the virtual console tty1. Login and then type this command to remove the xorg.conf file and reboot: sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf; reboot

Then try using these commands for Full or Limited color range:

Hello, I have a similar issue with the same card. A 1050m 4GB DDR5 on an ASUS laptop.
I want to enable coolbits and use GWE to control clocks and fan but as soon as I invoke the coolbits through terminal with the (supposedly) correct commands the laptop is rendered blind and onlñy can boot it with terminal, delete the xorg.conf file created (which didn't exist before and reboot. The it will start as usual...
Any ideas?
