Mint, kernel versions & ultrawide monitors (2560x1080)

Post by AndyMH »

Recently upgraded to LM19 and ran into problems with my ultrawide monitor (2560x1080) - LM19 wouldn't recognise a resolution higher than 1920x1080. The full story and a manual fix is here: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=280143&start=20. My hardware is a Thinkpad T430 (integrated 3rd gen intel GPU) and an LG 25UM58 monitor. There have also been a few recent posts of others having problems with monitor resolution.

After some digging*, I finally tracked this down to the kernel. Any kernel after 4.5.7 will not provide any resolution higher than 1920x1080 (at least with my setup).

The purpose of this post is to find out if my problem is hardware specific or more general. If you have an ultrawide monitor (or any res greater than 1920x1080):
  • Did it work 'out of the box'?
  • What hardware, specifically GPU (is this an intel problem or AMD/nvidia as well) and monitor?
  • What version of mint & what kernel?
Andy
