Enable Daisy Chain MST feature in Linux Mint 19

Post by pablitobaud »

Hi everyone,

I recently installed Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon 16-bit on my laptop (Fujitsu LIFEBOOK E744).

I would like to use it with two external monitors Dell U2415.
I can connect my laptop to Dell monitor 1 using DP(out) to mDP(in).
I can then connect Dell monitor 1 to Dell monitor 2 using DP(out) to mDP(in).

If I just do that, everything is fine except that the two Dell monitors are mirror images of each other, while I would like to have an extended desktop.
To do that I need to enter the display settings of the monitors and enable DisplayPort 1.2.

In the user manual of the Dell monitors there is a note saying:
To use the DP MST (Daisy Chain) or HBR2 feature, enable DP 1.2.
NOTE: Ensure your Graphics Card can support these features before selecting DP 1.2. Wrong setting may result in blank screen. Some Graphics Cards do not support MCCS (Monitor Control Command Set) at DP 1.2. In these cases, DDM (Dell Display Manager) may not run.
If I do that, both Dell monitor stop receiving any signal from my laptop.
I guess that means that my graphic card doesn't support this feature but how can I be sure?
Can it be a problem of installing/updating the correct drivers?
