Problem calibrating monitor

Post by gewitty »

I'm trying to calibrate an AOC 2369M monitor, using a Spyder 3. This used to work perfectly in Mint 18. All I had to do was plug it in, then the Gnome Colour app would load and I could run the calibration with no problem.

However, I just tried to run a calibration in Mint 19 and got an error which I don't understand. When I plug the Spyder in, Gnome Colour opens OK and display the monitor model number correctly. I then run through the calibration set up steps, 'Introduction, Check Settings, Calibration Quality, etc., until I get to 'Action'. This starts to run the calibration, but after a couple of seconds I get an error message saying, 'Failed to Calibrate. Failed to match display'.

Has anyone any idea what might be causing this?

We've had a number of posts on monitors where they used to work okay in LM18 but don't in LM19. Don't have a specific fix for you, but you might try down-grading your kernel from the 4.15 that comes with LM19 to a 4.4 kernel and see if it works.

I'm wary of messing with the kernel, as I had a nightmare getting my Nvidia drivers working in 19. Regressing to 4.4 means switching to the generic driver, which will screw up some of my other apps.

Ahhh! Nvidia, can't help there I'm afraid. Post the output from inxi -G and others might.

Here you go:

Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GM107 [GeForce GTX 750 Ti]
Display Server: x11 (X.Org 1.19.6 )
drivers: nvidia (unloaded: modesetting,fbdev,vesa,nouveau)
Resolution: 1920x1080@60.00hz
OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GTX 750 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 390.77

I know it says that the Nvidia driver is unloaded, but apparently this is not the case. It is actually running but not reported as such for reasons which are above my pay grade.

Re: Problem calibrating monitor (SOLVED)

I've managed to sort the problem by installing DisplayCAL. This worked perfectly with the Spyder 3 and got my monitor profiled in under an hour.

Thanks for the help.
