Gpu temp, when only browsing this forum: 87 Celsius (189F). Is this ok?

Post by carum carvi »

I saw another person's question about a reported difference in bios and Inxi-Fxz values of the temperature of the cpu. One was 35 Celsius (95F) the other was 55 Celsius (131 F). Although it is odd, that BIOS and Inxi -Fxz report different values. Both those values are normal though according to what I had read online.

Just for fun I wanted to check my cpu AND my gpu temperature with inxi -Fxz: when only browsing this very forum, without any other programs running my GPU temperature was 87 Celsius. (189 Fahrenheit). That seemed a bit much for just browsing this forum.

But now it gets really confusing. Who can explain the following?

I did a test: opened 2 youtube 4k video channels, ran libreoffice, Gimp and did another gpu temperature test with inxi -Fxz: the temperature had DROPPED !!!! Not much, but it did drop 5 degrees in Celsius while my pc was in overload with lots of programs running compared to only browsing this forum before. And browsing this forum (without any other programs running) resulted in a higher inxi -Fxz result for GPU temp!!! And that while system monitor mentioned that my cpu processor ran at 100% and I was using 75% of RAM.

How reliable is the inxi -Fxz temperature of GPU? The results of my CPU temp seemed to be allright.
The temperature of my CPU was 55 Celsius (131F) when browsing this forum and went to 75 Celsius (167F) when watching those 4K youtube video channels in 2 firefox browsers simultaneously. Those seemed to be normal values that I neednt worry about. But my GPU temp readings DO worry me.

Is my graphics card obsolete? But even it was, how is it possible that gpu temperature DROPS when I considerably increase the graphics load with 2 youtube channels running in 4K? The only thing I can come up with is the possibility that my fans start blowing much MUCH harder when watching Youtube 4K video and that the fans are causing the temp of gpu to drop even when the graphics load is much higher...
