Toggle Display DVI (Screen) and VGA (HDMI adapter)

Post by louarnold »

This for a HP Compaq desktop Running Linux Mint 18.1 with Cinnamon. It has a Radeon Xpress AMD/ATI card. The keyboard is also an HP.

The monitor is connected to the computer's DVI output at 1280x1024. The VGA to HDMI adapter to the VGA output with an extra USB cable for power, going to an HDTV showing 1080p as the resolution.

When I connect the VGA adapter, the monitor and TV show a similar scrambled screen. No Keycode that I know will change it. Super+F7 doesn't work as it does on my laptop.

Questions:
What is the keycode to switch back and forth? Or is that impossible?

Is there a display mode problem, and how does one fix it?
