Weird Screen Effect After login

Post by microsoftWindus »

Hi all! I got a problem when I sometimes log into Linux Mint XFCE. This happens sometimes, sometimes it doesnt't. Maybe when I got low battery I dont know.

Here are pictures https://imgur.com/a/1Q0DnYR.

I posted this on Reddit, they said its maybe due to graphic driver. I have dual boot on this computer (Windows and Linux Mint) and with Windows I dont have this problem, maybe its cuz Windows have proprietary drivers while I installed free/non-proprietary drivers on Linux Mint.

Here is link to that Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxmint/comm ... mint_xfce/

I have Lenovo ThinkPad T470s. These are its specs:
  • CPU: Intel i7-6600
  • RAM: 12GB
  • Graphics Card: HD Graphics 520

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Try this:
Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel from the 4.18 series. Then reboot.

I still got that effect even though I have installed new kernel. But that effect lasts like half a second, but again, I dont know if that is good or bad to have for computer, dont wanna damage some components.

I just want to point out, maybe this has problem with it. When I was installing Linux Mint, I didnt checked that box that said to install proprietary drivers for graphics, wifi and so on. So can that be problem, because I use free drivers instead of proprietary?

For your hardware, there aren't any proprietary drivers. So that's not an issue.

Try if it helps when you disable all visual effects in Xfce:

Since my last reply I havent encounter that weird screen effect. When I type my login credentials (username, password), screen goes black for half a second or 1 second and then it goes normal. Still, better then weird screen effect. I thought that, maybe that screen effect that my computer is doing is bad for my graphics card.

Should I have Display Compositing in Windows Manager Tweaks -> Compositor on or off?

Thank You!
