The login screen has very low resolution on my external monitor. Also the laptop screen looks wrong as it is showing a minified version on the top left corner of the laptop screen, also it is mirroring the external monitor, and this is not set on the configuration.
However once I am logged in, everything works perfect, the screens are not mirrored, so it only happens on the login screen. I am using the nvidia 390 driver, as the nouveau driver was not able to properly set the resolution on the external monitor.

If you are using Mint Cinnamon or MATE, then use this command to remove the monitors.xml file:
A new one is generated when the Display program is used. Open Display and check that the screens are configured correctly. Click Apply.
