[Solved] Second monitor not detected under Mint

Post by fw190 »

Hi!

I'm trying to connect an EIZO monitor as an external monitor to my laptop. I have checked and this setup works with my other Lenovo T530 laptop very well under Windows, but from unknown reasons Linux is saying no no no to this idea. Any hints what can I do? Is this is a lost cause and I will have to try to return this monitor?

I'm on Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.1 with all of the updates applied.

The only reaction while turning on the laptop is that it blinks after login while the external monitor is plugged in.

Re: Second monitor not detected under Mint

Are you connecting to an HDMI port? On most laptops, that port is internally connected to the Nvidia GPU, so the Nvidia driver needs to be installed before it will work. This also should install the nvidia-prime program. Open Driver Manager and install the recommended driver.

Yep. Switching to Nvidia solved the problem but something new poped out - how can I change the brightness of the external monitor? The hardware buttons on the device don't change anything.

On Windows it was bright as the laptop screen.

I found a code below that outputs a few details about the setup - maybe this will help you.

Edit:

solved - this monitor is some eco friendly terrorist - it had a eco setting which disabled certain levels of brightness. When I turned it off everything started to work. I tell you one thing - one day this whole eco will kill us ;)

The monitor’s on-screen menu should allow you to change the brightness settings, independent of what operating system is installed. To increase the brightness further, open NVIDIA X Server Settings and select the monitor on the left and the Color Correction tab on the right.

As mentioned above:

:)

Everything works fine right now. Thank you for your help.
