ASUS Tuf A15 - driver manager is empty (nvidia 2060)

Post by simon_marklar »

Hello,

This may be a case of waiting for the drivers to be released/updated as the laptop is quite new.

I've read and tried so much to get the driver manager to show my nvidia 2060 card but nothing is working. I'm running out of options and i dont know where i can look for/commands to run to get more info on what to try so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction

- Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3 64bit (tried 19.1, 19.2, ubuntu 20 and elementary OS, got the same issue)
- Dual boot with windows 10 using the mint "install alongside windows" option, windows 10 works fine so hardware is not damaged
- bios is booting in "unsafe mode", however! the first time of unlocking the secureboot the system booted in 800x600 (still didnt show the drivers tho)
- booting using

Code: Select all

acpi_osi=Linux nouveau.modeset=0
added
- added the repository

Code: Select all

ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
and updated apt
- nothing shows in device manager.
- installing the nvidia drivers from apt

Code: Select all

apt-get install nvidia-driver-440
doesnt show the hardware either

inxi -F output:

Code: Select all

You have very new hardware. The AMD Ryzen 9 4900H launch date was 3/16/20. You will need a newer kernel from here:
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Your APU is based on the Renoir architecture so you will probably need the newest Renoir firmware update from 4-17-20 here:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke ... e.git/log/

Lastly, a newer Mesa package update may be needed by adding the padoka PPA.
