Hello,
I have some strange problem with my Mint 20.1 Mate when I'm trying to move any icon across my desktop it gives strange artifacts. I did not observe such behavior on 19.3. I tried to revert to using older drivers so I switched from the newest 460 to 390 but no dice. I use LTS kernel 5.4.0-71 at the moment.
I've search the almighty interwebz and the only thing I found was some guy having similar problem with his quadro card but he found a workaround using HDMI cable instead of DP. Unfortunately in my case it doesn't matter which cable I use - desktop still glitches.
I tried to show what I mean on this video.
Help please.

Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal:

from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers [code]

Hello,
And just when I thought nobody wants to help me it turns out that, for some reason, I did not get the notification about the reply. Thank you for answering the call. Here's the result:
I never mentioned this but apart from the glitches my desktop fonts look really bad although I have subpixel font smoothing on. In desperation I even tried changing RGB order but no dice.
In the meantime there was few kernel updates and nvidia drivers update but unfortunately it did not help.

Re: NVidia card desktop artifacts
I'll quote you this time and hopefully you will get a notification someone replied.
There are improvements for 3rd gen Ryzens in the 5.8 kernel which is available in Update Manager. Although you are using Nvidia for graphics, it may be these improvements for your processor will help this situation.
Open Update Manager. Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue. Make sure 5.8 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear. Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active. Let us know if that helps.
The other suggestion is to not use the oibaf-ppa for graphics. I do not see it in your inxi graphics info, but I noticed it is listed as an active repo. Quite a few people have been having issues related to that PPA recently.

Re: NVidia card desktop artifacts
I'm digging up the topic because I wonder if anyone came across the problem I had. Since my last post I tried few kernels from 5.8 line, few from 5.11 and 5.13. I've also upgraded my NVidia drivers few times and the newest ones were 4.90. Despite all of this the glitches and messed up fonts stayed with me for a long time. Not that long ago I did a fresh install of LM 20.03 Cinnamon and it seems to be OK now. I'm using 5.4 kernel and recommended NVidia drivers 4.70. I still don't know what was going on though.
