can no longer switch between intel and nvidia [SOLVED]

Post by jschoonh »

Normally I’m able to solve my own problems. But now I’m stuck. I did try all solutions found on the internet.
I have a Toshiba pro satellite a 50 with dual graphic card. Running mint 20.
Till a few months ago I had the applet in the panel to choose for intel or nvidia graphic card. Applet is disappeared and nvidia x server window is empty.
I did try several drivers,,, start nvidia via etc/modules,,,, a time shift restore,,,,, and another kernel. none was working
Please who is able to give me a hint.

Timeshift restore did not work? Is Timeshift the reason your inxi output is showing an old kernel? (The latest is 5.4.0-72.)

There are some recent issues with several files which affect the nvidia-prime-applet. The issues do not seem to affect all laptops in the same manner. However, it seems many people have found success with one particular fix. The fourth post in this thread Disappearing Nvidia drivers :Prime the prime suspect? describes a one line code fix (editing line 34) for a know bug with some of the graphics files related to Nvidia.

Nvidia files will need to be installed to complete that fix. You can verify Nvidia files are installed with dpkg -l | grep -i nvidia.

Thank you!! it did the job. New kernel (nothing to do with the problem) end the change in the line 34 of /usr/bin/prime-supported in (true). Not a very elegant method but it works well!!
