[SOLVED] NVidia drivers cause login window to appear

Post by ZFR »

After updating to version 465.27 Nvidia drivers, the login window appears every time when I start my PC, and I have to type my password. I have manual login disabled in settings.

It also happens on version 460. This doesn't happen when I switch to Nouveau, or if I revert to version 415.

Any idea what could be causing this? Here is my inxi

Re: NVidia drivers cause login window to appear

After looking around, I tried this and it solved the issue:

viewtopic.php?p=1895521#p1895521

Could anyone please explain what exactly does adding those lines to /etc/modules do?

As it says in the post, it loads the Nvidia kernel modules a little earlier in the boot process. The graphics driver files have to load every time the system boots and sometimes X Server starts before all the Nvidia modules have loaded. Usually, when that is a problem, one does not have the inxi -G output your system shows, so I'm surprised that was the issue. However, it seems more people are needing to make that change since the Nvidia-460 driver came out. I do not know what might be different about that driver which is causing the modules loading to be a bit slower.

Yes. And from what I read it usually is a black screen or 640x480 resolution that they get, so my symptoms were a bit different too.

Anyway, I've marked this as solved.

Thanks.
