I'm current getting and error message to check my video drivers as apparently I'm running without video hardware acceleration. My laptop is a HP Pavi. The error box has a call to action with a button to launch the device manager which I do so. However the device manager that which is listed in the attached file. So how do I check my video drivers and resolve the problem?

Section 5 of READ: How To Get Help! explains the data we need to be able to help you. Telling us your laptop is a HP Pavi is really not enough information to be helpful.
If Driver Manager is not showing any graphics drivers, then it is likely you have a laptop with AMD graphics. The graphics for AMD are included in the kernel. However, if you have a very new laptop, you may need a newer kernel than what comes on the standard Linux Mint ISOs.
Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal:

Re: My system is running without video hardware acceleration
My sincere apologies for not including enough information about my laptop, that was a bit rubbish. In my defence I am very new to Mint and didn't really know where to find the required information. I also apologise for not reading the 'How to Get Help!' section. I have done as instructed in your response and I do appreciate you taking the time to explain these things to me and supply the command so that I can get the required information, which is as follows:
Again thank you for you help and patience with this newbie user.

Re: My system is running without video hardware acceleration
Your computer has a fairly new processor. The graphics for it require a newer kernel than the default one which comes with LM20 which is why you were getting the message about no video hardware acceleration. There is no driver installed.
Graphics:
Device-1: AMD Renoir vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: N/A bus ID: 04:00.0
chip ID: 1002:1636
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.9 driver: ati,fbdev
unloaded: modesetting,radeon,vesa resolution: 1920x1080~77Hz
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.0 256 bits) v: 4.5 Mesa 20.2.6
compat-v: 3.1 direct render: Yes
Your system needs the 5.8 kernel which is available in Update Manager in order to have the graphics driver automatically install. Open Update Manager. Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue. Make sure 5.8 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear. Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active. Doing that should clear the no video acceleration message.

Re: My system is running without video hardware acceleration
Thank you very much for the solution, it worked a treat. Well done. My system seemed to be running faster than windows even without the fix so I am quite impressed with Mint so far. I did have one further question if you don't mind me troubling you. My system orignally installed the 5.4 kernel and then I manually updated to the 5.8 kernel. I noticed when I performed the update that the 5.4 update appeared to be supported until 2025 but the 5.8 kernel was supported only until 2021. Is that correct or am I be stupid? And if that is correct why would a previous version of the kernel be supported longer than the 5.8 kernel?

Re: My system is running without video hardware acceleration
Because some kernels are LTS (Long Time Support) kernels and some are not. So yes, it can happen that a newer kernel will have shorter support than an older one. But never fear: it's fine to run a kernel that does not have long time support, in order to solve a problem. There will be a new version out in time to replace the current 5.8 when it goes out of support.nickperks wrote: ⤴Wed Jun 09, 2021 6:52 am noticed when I performed the update that the 5.4 update appeared to be supported until 2025 but the 5.8 kernel was supported only until 2021. Re: [SOLVED] My system is running without video hardware acceleration
hi thanks for right track so far,
but my update manager shows only kernel 5.4 and below.
I use an AMD RX6800 with X570 mobo and 5600X CPU.
So all AMD and PCIe 4.0 and the Mint 19.3 kernel 5.4.0-120
Does this mean I will never be able to install kernel 5.8 and never use the RX6800 properly?
Monitor is 3440x1440 but graphics are stuck at 1024x768
