Linux Mint 20, SUSPEND FIX: NVidia 450/460/465 incompatible w/Linux Kernel 5.4.0

Linux Mint Nvidia drivers after 390 are no longer working for Linux kernel 5.4.0.
I reverted back to 390 and everything works fine except nvidia-settings.

Hi! Last week I ran into problems with NVidia 450 suspend. I upgraded to 465 latest. I was okay for a couple of days and then the problem came back.

Linux Kernel 5.4.0 is incompatible with NVidia 450/460/465 on my Lenovo Laptop.

The last driver I had working was 450. However. when I tried to reinstall it the NVidiia 450 driver from NVIdia's web site the installer said there were no drivers for 5.4.0 kernel and refused to install.

I then decided to revert back to the long term supported version, 390.

However, 390 has another problem:

However the 390 driver is working fine, including pm-suspend.

The downside is I have to use 'sudo prime-switch intel/nvidia' at the command line to switch graphics mode.

Bumblebee is not supported in Linux Mint.

Mint installs and uses the nvidia-prime-applet for switching.

My setup with the latest Nvidia Driver version 460.80. Runs silky smooth for the last year since building this machine. I switched over to the liquorix kernel within a month. Zero issues since then. It might just work for you.

Bumblebee is not supported in Linux Mint.

Mint installs and uses the nvidia-prime-applet for switching.

It is not completely true. It is outdated, not recommended, not compatible with nvidia-prime-applet, and tricky to make it works but still supported .

It can not be both outdated and still supported. If it is supported then it is not outdated. However, Bumblebee is not supported by Mint.

If you check the Mint Github you will find the code for nvidia-prime-applet. It is software Mint currently supports.

Sorry, now I know what not supported in Linux Mint means (it does not mean you can not install it), and maybe outdated is not the word (even last official released was on 2013) as Ubuntu still provide bumblebee updates in repositories.

Any way, IMHO mybrid needs to provide some useful information (inxi -Fxxxzr and also dpkg -l | grep -i nvidia.) If it is not and old hardware sure he/she does not need bumblebee at all and need to completely remove bumblebee and Nvidia drivers before trying another one with prime off-loading and nvidia-prime applet.

Don't want to hijack this thread only say, in my old laptop, I do need legacy nvidia-driver-390 'cause it is a Kepler series graphic card and I can (hardly) switch graphics on-the-fly with bumblebee. Those errors your are receiving and many others happen mostly because Nvidia GPU is really off if booting with Intel, sudo prime-select query, but also need lot of tweaks.
