Resolution of the second monitor changed after sleep

Post by Taozi »

Hi there, I have been facing some annoying display issues for a while. The resolutions of both my laptop and second monitor are 1920*1080. With a fresh boot, everything works. But when I put the system to sleep (closing the lid of the laptop) and wake it up (open the lid). Two things happen:
1. The laptop display is disabled, everything appears on the second monitor
2. After opening the Display setting tool and enable the laptop display. The second monitor's resolution changes to a lower one. So if I move the mouse cursor to the rightmost border of the screen, the entire screen moves to the left. Interestingly, all resolutions still show up as 1920*1080 in the Display setting tool. I only found it is 1867*1050 when I tried to record this issue using SimpleScreeRecorder. I have no idea what causes this, but anyone ever experienced the same thing?

I don't know how to embed an image, but a screenshot of the Display setting tool and the SimpleScreenRecorder is here: https://ibb.co/2FRW37X

Below is the inxi -Fxz output.

Power states, such as suspend, can be dependent on the BIOS/UEFI and on the graphics drivers.

According to BIOS Update (Utility & Bootable CD) for Windows 10 (64-bit), Linux - ThinkPad P53, P73, the most recent BIOS/UEFI is 1.30. Looking at the ReadMe, I see mention of microcode CPU updates as well as some affecting Thunderbolt ports (through which one can attach docks). Perhaps an update will help correct this situation.

Edited to correct misspelling.

Hi SMG. I updated the BIOS, tested multiple times and it seemed the problem was partially solved.
The laptop screen is still disabled when waked up. I can live with that because the more annoying resolution issue disappeared.
Thanks, I would never figure it out without your help!

For future users with the same laptop:
1. download from the official website
2. unzip gives three cap files
3. (I used) fwupdmgr install N2NET45W.cab to install one of them.

You are welcome.

I do not have any ideas at this time why the laptop screen is disabling. Maybe someone else will have an idea.
