[SOLVED] Mint 20.2 Another NVIDIA driver not loading, No Hardware Acceleration on clean install

Post by DanielCoffey »

Hello all,

I am having difficulty getting the 470 NVIDIA drivers to be recognised on a clean install of Mint 20.2 Cinnamon on my desktop i7-7700K with NVIDIA 1080ti. My forum signature is up to date.

I have performed a clean install from a USB and allowed the Update Manager to complete all recommended updates. I then switched from the nouveau drivers to the recommended 470 NVIDIA drivers using the Driver Manager tool. As soon as the system rebooted, the display went into low resolution (1024x768) and reported that the system was running without video hardware acceleration.

Here is the output from inxi as requested and I note that the installation media came with the 5.4.0-80 kernel.

I have not attempted to remove these drivers and I have also not attempted to revert back to nouveau (yet).

SOLVED (in my situation) using the advice in THIS THREAD...

Advice was to load the three nvidia processes earlier in the boot process by placing them in the modules file.
