MacBook Pro 2009 Blank on wake must hard reboot every time

Post by ghostofamerica »

Hi all,
I've got a sweet 2009 Macbook Pro. it's got a dual core processor and the previous owner loaded it up with 8 gigs RAM. It "runs" XFCE. I think I'm using all the latest version 20.2 an all. I'm seeing this common problem that doesn't appear to have a common solution in other forums.

I set pwr man to never blank the screen or go to sleep unless I shut the lid. It ignores my settings and goes blank and then to sleep anyway, with the lid open. That in itself is no big deal. But, it never wakes fully after, the screen is black and I have to do a hard reboot.

It's kinda a pain in the groats. Would anyone like to troubleshoot this with me?

Thanks for reading.

ooh, maybe might have solved it.
Apparently there is a huge difference between hard rebooting and shutting down and booting fresh...
keep my thumbs crossed

Apple hardware not waking after suspend is unfortunately a common issue. This thread
Does not wake from suspend on Mid-2010 Macbook Pro
has some links you might find helpful.

I would also suggest you go to your first post and click the pencil icon and edit the title to add 2009 MacBook Pro so it will catch the eyes of those who have similar hardware.

For additional help, please provide the data requested in Section 5 of READ: How To Get Help!. Give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal: inxi -Fxxxrz
Click </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers
Results
. This will let us know how Mint sees your hardware.
