What is the output of prime-select query

If it not nvidia, then use this command: sudo prime-select nvidia

After rebooting, post the output of inxi -Gx

The Nvidia GPU is now doing the graphics rendering.

However, your original problem was getting the external monitor connected to the USB-C port to work. Is it working now?

I assume that port is connected internally to the AMD GPU, so the Nvidia driver should not need to load to make it work.

I will have to try it later, note that I am connecting the monitor through a usb c to DP cable. Do you think it will work or needs aditional tweaks?

You said in your first post that the monitor worked in Windows with that setup, so it probably should work in Linux, but not always.

Perfect I will try it tomorrow morning.

Regarding switching between the amd and nvidia, should I use teh NVIDIA Optimus panel, there is also an on demand option, should I use it?

Yes use the nvidia-prime applet on the panel to switch GPUs. Reboot after switching. First test if the monitor works in Nvidia Performance mode and then in On-Demand mode.

If the monitor doesn’t work, then post the output of these commands:
xrandr --verbose and ls /sys/class/drm/

Update: the fans started to work heavily and the the computer to heat up and there was no way to bring it down so I had to turn it off and restart it on windows, after a while the system went back to normal. What do you think is wrong?

Surprisingly, the info you posted indicates the USB-C port is connected to the Nvidia GPU.

Open the Nvidia Settings utility to the PowerMizer page. Watch if the Performance level drops to level 0 after a period of idle. Wait at least 2 minutes.

If not, then try changing the refresh rate of the ASUS monitor to 60 Hz, if you are now using 120, 144, or 165.

If that doesn’t help, then try installing the Nvidia-460 driver.

This is the first time I’ve seen your particular hardware setup in the Mint forums. Using On-Demand mode through a USB-C connection may still need better Linux support.

Your laptop should have an HDMI port. Does the monitor have an HDMI port? If yes, then test if both Nvidia Performance mode and On-Demand mode work with that connection.

So I finally change the driver to 460 an it seems ti work.

So when I use the USB C in on demand nothing is detected, when I use the HDMI in on demand, the second screen activates and works perfectly, but it seems that it is using the AMD and not chanign to nvidia

With the monitor connected to the HDMI port, post the output of xrandr --verbose to check if that port is connected internally to the AMD or Nvidia GPU.

Ok, so back to one of the original questions.

Is there any way to make the "on demand" setting work as to make it use the nvidia when USB-C monitor is connected and the AMD when it is not?

With the monitor connected to the laptop's HDMI port and set to On-Demand mode, post the output of inxi -Gx.

So I randomly decided to take off the HDMI and plug the USB-C while on demand and it worked!

I would think that program would have no effect, but the only way to be sure is to remove it temporarily.

Also, I suggest shutting down the laptop and retesting both ports again with On-Demand.
