That is an interesting observation. Are both connections the same? (Info I found indicates that GPU has two DVI ports and one mini-HDMI port.)CyrielleCentori wrote: ⤴Mon Nov 15, 2021 6:39 pmSo I started using my computer, waiting for a new freeze to happen, to see if any more information was printed on this log and to wait a bit more this time, but this time I had my second monitor unplugged (since my PC is not working correctly, I often connect this second monitor to my laptop instead). And I've been working on my PC for several hours now without any problem.
That could be luck, but I've never seen the computer freeze with only one monitor connected (though I've rarely used it without two monitors). I'll continue to use it with only one monitor to see if it freezes again.

Re: Nvidia random fatal freezes
Weird, because I have one VGA, one DVI and one HDMI on my GPU (+ one HDMI on my integrated GPU but I don't use it).
The main screen is plugged in HDMI, the second one (the unplugged one) in DVI.

Re: Nvidia random fatal freezes
It's possible more than one variation was made or the info I found was incorrect. There are things the Nvidia driver does which is different for different types of ports. I only know that because there was one version of the driver (I can't recall the number right now) where there were problems and people found switching to a DP from HDMI (or maybe it was the reverse) cleared the issue which was happening at that time. That's why I was curious which ones you were using.CyrielleCentori wrote: ⤴Tue Nov 16, 2021 2:04 am Weird, because I have one VGA, one DVI and one HDMI on my GPU (+ one HDMI on my integrated GPU but I don't use it).
Keep us posted how the experiment goes.

Re: Nvidia random fatal freezes
Update: I’ve used the computer for some time now and there has been only two freezes. One occurred right after I logged in, quite unusual so I continued the experiment, but the second one occurred just hours ago. I’ve left my computer running frozen some hours before rebooting it (since I had nothing to do). Nothing in the logs during this time: as if the computer was shut down. So no new information for the freezes themselves (joining in the logs anyway just in case but I don’t think it’ll be useful)
Syslog: freeze 1: https://termbin.com/pgg2 | freeze 2: https://termbin.com/5scp
.xsession-errors: freeze 1: (empty) | freeze 2: https://termbin.com/b7ea
If you don’t have any more ideas, I think I’ll try to run another OS to see if it still happens (if so, it might be an hardware issue). I can still note that while having only one screen doesn’t prevent the freezes from happening, it still makes them far less frequent (so my computer is still decently usable).

Try this solution for Ubuntu:
Replace in GRUB menu ”quiet splash” with ”quiet splash nomodeset” (On the grub screen click select ‘*Ubuntu’ and press ‘e’)
Re: Nvidia random fatal freezes
Preventing the graphics driver from loading is not helpful for this topic.

The first syslog indicates the system had not even finished completely starting.CyrielleCentori wrote: ⤴Sun Nov 28, 2021 12:41 pmIf you don’t have any more ideas, I think I’ll try to run another OS to see if it still happens (if so, it might be an hardware issue). I do not see any issues in the logs, so I do not have any more ideas.
