I have tried a number of things, and the closest I've gotten it to working is this configuration:
- nvidia-driver-470 installed via the Driver Manager UI
- /etc/modules fix applied as described in viewtopic.php?p=1895521#p1895521 - I'm not actually sure if this is helping, but it doesn't seem to be hurting
- removed nomodeset from GRUB after it had previously helped me get in with nouveau
- changed nvidia prime setting to "intel" by way of "prime-select intel" from recovery mode
The above has allowed me to get into Mint through the graphical login and have stuff on my screen (hurray), but am presented with the warning "Check your video drivers. Your system is currently running without video hardware acceleration..." I want to enable nvidia graphics.
Now if I try to update to "prime-select nvidia" I am back to the "blank screen" issue I've seen in many threads on this forum. In particular, my boot sequence looks like this
1) POST screen comes and goes
2) GRUB screen shows (I updated my GRUB settings to show the splash screen for 10 seconds)
3) Select Linux Mint 20.2
4) Graphical prompt to decrypt hard drive shows (with Mint logo). I enter the password and hit Enter
5) Brief flash of textual login prompt
6) Black screen
7) Attempt to restart X as I've seen suggested elsewhere with ctrl + alt + backspace.
8 ) Cursor momentarily appears in top-left, but it quickly disappears and it's back to the void
Then if I reboot into recovery mode, run "prime-select intel" and reboot, I can get into Mint with the graphical login fine, but get the hardware acceleration warning mentioned above.
Any help would greatly be appreciated; pertinent details below. Thanks!
