i've installed mint 20.2 cinnamon on my thinkpad and i'm facing problems regarding the brightness. i'm not able to use the brightness hotkeys nor change the brightness manually in the power management so i tried some tutorials and fixes. the brightnessctl method didn't work and all these methods seems to be for intel/nvidia graphics card but i've a amd radeon graphics card. what do i do now ? its eating my battery and i'm not able to find help anywhere. and also is there a way to regain the functions of the hotkeys ?
edit : didn't include the config so here it is

Re: unable to decrease my brightness
Same problem here. Are you running from USB stick (Live Linux) or full install? For installed Linux the editing of the GRUB file seems to be the right approach.
My HP Elitebook 845 G3 loades Acpi-Video0 but it should be Radeon I guess since the laptop has an AMD APU (AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U with Radeon Graphics ×
I still were not able to fix it for my Live Linux though. Maybe, if one day, I can share it

Re: unable to decrease my brightness
Actually, since the OP has not posted system info other than the make/model, you do not know if the OP has the same problem or not. You certainly don't know if modifying grub is the right approach.Obsolet wrote: ⤴Sun Dec 05, 2021 10:35 am Same problem here. Are you running from USB stick (Live Linux) or full install? To the OP: post sime useful info, copy/paste the text output of inxi -Fxxxrz run in the terminal.

Re: unable to decrease my brightness
Actually what the OP wrote sounds quite like the same many Linux user (me included) have, which is, that brightness can't be controlled, although the brightness slider is there and/or the hotkeys are idicating that brightness level is altered. The screen itself, the hardware, does not dim or bright up though.
But well, yes, let the OP feed the threat with more input and then let us see. I am still guessing I wasn't that wrong

Re: unable to decrease my brightness
Please upgrade your kernel. Your system is running without a graphics driver.Entropy Boltzmann wrote: ⤴Sun Dec 12, 2021 3:16 pmand also i wanted to say thank you for trying to help me.... this issue as been bugging me for days now
Graphics:
Device-1: AMD Renoir vendor: Lenovo driver: N/A bus ID: 04:00.0

OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 12.0.0 256 bits) v: 4.5 Mesa 21.0.3
compat-v: 3.1 direct render: Yes
Instructions for upgrading to the 5.13 kernel:
- Open Update Manager.
- Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue.
- Make sure 5.13 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear.
- Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.

Re: unable to decrease my brightness
yeah you're right, its the same issue with me and i have only seen fixes for intel_backlight and nothing useful for acpi_video0. i also tried reading the arch wiki for acpi but didn't finish it because it was just to much. thanks in advanceObsolet wrote: ⤴Sun Dec 05, 2021 6:37 pm Actually what the OP wrote sounds quite like the same many Linux user (me included) have, which is, that brightness can't be controlled, although the brightness slider is there and/or the hotkeys are idicating that brightness level is altered.
