2nd monitor not detected.

Post by GoldBlend »

Hello, first time poster and first time downloading Linux. PSB specs.
My second monitor is not detected and I've tried various things through out these forums like changing lines GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to fit windows but it didn't change anything . Originally my resolution was condensed on my laptop screen but switching to native drivers and rebooting seemed to sort that issue. I downloaded the latest ISO off Mint website 20.3 Una cinnamon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, GoldBlend.

Your computer has dual graphics. Many computers that have dual graphics require the Nvidia driver to be installed and loaded before external monitors will work. Currently, your computer is only set up to run the Intel graphics (which run your laptop screen). The Intel graphics are in the kernel, but because your computer is so new, you needed to install the newer kernel to get the proper graphics driver.

Have you opened Driver Manager and installed the recommended Nvidia driver?

If you have done that and rebooted your computer, please look for the nvidia-prime-applet icon in the lower right of your computer screen. I expect it looks like an Intel icon. You will want to use that applet to change to On-Demand mode and then reboot your computer for the change to take effect.

The Nvidia drivers will not load if you have Secure Boot enabled unless you create keys for them. I do not recall exactly how ASUS handles the keys, but if you are prompted to create keys, the Nvidia driver is why you would need to create them.

Let us know if you have any questions or run into issues.
