Mint 20.2 and ASUS zenbook UX82EA dual screen

Post by tofm2 »

Hello.

I recently acquired an ASUS Zenbook UX82EA dual screen. It is equipped with an Intel Iris Xe graphics card.

This computer works great on linux mint 20.2. it says there is no need for a proprietary driver to be installed.

The only problem is I cannot access the second (bottom) screen. A pity because it is the reason for my purchase.

Anybody cot any clues on how to turn it on ???

Sincerely yours.

Is that screen showing in the Display app?

Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal: inxi -Fxxxrz
Click </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers
Results
. This will let us know how Mint sees your hardware and may give us ideas of what to suggest.

There is no graphics driver installed and your main screen is only running in software rendering mode.
Graphics:
Device-1: Intel vendor: ASUSTeK driver: N/A bus ID: 0000:00:02.0 chip ID: 8086:9a49
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.13 driver: fbdev unloaded: modesetting,vesa resolution: 1920x1080~77Hz
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 12.0.0 256 bits) v: 4.5 Mesa 21.0.3 compat-v: 3.1 direct render: Yes

Your hardware is very new. Please upgrade to the 5.13 which is available in Update Manager.

Instructions for upgrading to the 5.13 kernel:
  • Open Update Manager.
  • Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue.
  • Make sure 5.13 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear.
  • Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.
Let us know if that helps get the second screen working.

Also, just to let you know, your install is very, very small. You might right into issues as you add new kernels and software so you will need to be diligent about keeping your system cleaned.

Code: Select all

Partition: ID-1: / size: 19.50 GiB used: 12.88 GiB (66.1%) fs: btrfs dev: /dev/nvme0n1p7
           ID-2: /home size: 19.50 GiB used: 12.88 GiB (66.1%) fs: btrfs dev: /dev/nvme0n1p7
           ID-3: swap-1 size: 31.25 GiB used: 0 KiB (0.0%) fs: swap dev: /dev/nvme0n1p6

Glad to hear it is working now. Please go to your first post in this topic, click the pencil icon, and add [SOLVED] to the title so others know you are no longer seeking help on this issue.

@tofm2: Could you again paste your current output of "inxi -Fxxxrzhe"?

With your laptop, I would be interested whether an external 4k monitor would work (no flickering, nice colors, sharp font rendering, 4k resolution with 60hz). If you have access to one, it would be nice to share your results (which interface/cable used?).
I am asking because of my trouble with my Lenovo E14: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/4801

Please follow the forum guidelines and rules and do not add your questions to someone else's topic. You have a computer from a different hardware manufacturer which can make a difference in this type of situation. Please create your own topic for your issue.
