[SOLVED] Getting message about lack of Drivers for AMD Picasso

Post by nandordena »

Dont work for me:

Code: Select all

System:
 Kernel: 5.13.0-35-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: N/A
Desktop: Cinnamon 5.2.7 Distro: Linux Mint 20.3 Una
 base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal
Graphics:
Device-1: AMD Picasso vendor: Huawei driver: amdgpu v: kernel
 bus ID: 03:00.0
 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.13 driver: amdgpu,ati
 unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa resolution: 2160x1440~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 13.0.0 256 bits)
 v: 4.5 Mesa 22.0.0 - kisak-mesa PPA direct render: Yes
[FIXED] ( TNX SMG)

Conclusion:
Conflict in the loading of the software source.

Solution:
- Update Kernel
- Remove all video drives sources and try one by one, looking for the good one

Welcome to the forum, nandordena.

The other topic you referenced has different hardware than you have. Please give us the full information about your install by entering this command in a terminal: inxi -Fxxxrz
Click </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code tags and paste the results of the command between the code tags
Results
. This will let us know how Mint sees your hardware.

Your drivers are showing as loaded in this output and you should not have received a message.

Are you sometimes getting the message and sometimes not getting the message?

It appears you added a separate amdgpu package as well as some other packages. Perhaps there is interference happening on some boot cycles because of these?

No, I do not receive the message.
I think there is a misunderstanding, sorry.

I came to the original post looking for a solution to the poor graphics performance.
I found this post where you recommended a kernel update, and my problem persisted, but I didn't realize the issue was about an error message.

In conclusion, I don't get any error message. I just have bad graphics performance.

The original inxi information you posted indicates your system was running without hardware acceleration. When running Cinnamon without hardware acceleration, that should give you a message telling you to check your drivers. Also, performance will not be as good when running without hardware acceleration.

Graphics:
Device-1: AMD Picasso vendor: Huawei driver: amdgpu v: kernel
bus ID: 03:00.0
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.13 driver: amdgpu,ati
unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa resolution: 2160x1440~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 13.0.0 256 bits)
v: 4.5 Mesa 22.0.0 - kisak-mesa PPA direct render: Yes

The second inxi info you posted indicated there was hardware acceleration. You should have better performance when that is the output.

What criteria are you using to decide you have poor graphics performance? We will need to know examples to be able to help you.

I have run glmark2 to have a specific result and , although I don't have another benchmark to compare, it runs it without major problem.
But I notice the low performance when I try to run something with a minimum of graphic processing, ( zoom, gather.town, gimp... ).

glmark2 is run to make comparisons to changes you have made on your specific computer. You would use the values you have now to compare to see if changes you make have a positive or negative impact.

What criteria are you using to say the performance is low?

Based on what I've seen posted on this forum, everyone complains about performance with Zoom. Quite a bit of that has to do with the way the Zoom app is designed and how it works with the Zoom network servers. There is a Zoom forum where you may find tips on how to optimize performance.

I do know what gather.town is, but if it is also a web-browser based app then perhaps you would want to optimize the settings for performance and hardware acceleration either in the app or in the browser settings.

Low fps, high resource use, slow and blocked operation in general.
It appears you added a separate amdgpu package as well as some other packages. Perhaps there is interference happening on some boot cycles because of these?
Maybe there are interferences in some start cycles and because of these you have poor performance?
How can I clean it?

today I got a much worse result on glmark

Today's results: Score: 626 :?

What criteria are you using to say the performance is low?
Low fps, high resource use, slow and blocked operation in general.
If your system is using software rendering instead of hardware rendering, then that result is likely.
nandordena wrote: Sat Mar 19, 2022 8:02 am
It appears you added a separate amdgpu package as well as some other packages. Perhaps there is interference happening on some boot cycles because of these?
Maybe there are interferences in some start cycles and because of these you have poor performance?
How can I clean it?
If you took a Timeshift snapshot before you installed these packages, revert to the snapshot. If you did not, you will have to check the documentation for the packages to find the instructions for uninstalling it.

What is "it" that you restarted? The outputs this time clearly indicate you are running in software rendering mode.

he should use hardware rendering, normally.
But when I restart the pc, I have seen that sometimes, it shows me that it is using software rendering.
that's why my question of:

How can I clean it?
What else could be causing it not to use hardware rendering?

You have at least three different packages installed--the original Linux Mint files, the AMD website files (amdgpu and rocm), and the graphics-driver-ppa files. All are showing as active.

Do you still have all of those installed? Or have you removed some of them?

Both of those are from the AMD website driver package.

The output says you have the kisak-ppa installed which sounds like neither of the above is loaded. However, it is not always easy to know when multiple packages for the same software are loaded. It is possible parts of more than one are loading even though only one name is listed.

GL_RENDERER: AMD Radeon Vega 10 Graphics (raven, LLVM 13.0.0, DRM 3.41, 5.13.0-37-generic)
GL_VERSION: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 22.0.0 - kisak-mesa PPA

If you are worried about "losing" performance, by removing something then take a Timeshift snapshot before you remove it.

And Just this one from AMD:
