Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
The laptop has only UCB-C connectors and the external screen is connected via
a PROKORD Travel Port USB-C Total
where the Adapterns HDMI port supports up to 4K@30hz .
Which implies there should be some driver for that thing ?

Hi Vilsen
Can you check in your BIOS if you have TPM (Trust Platform Technology)? If yes try to disable it and see it you can boot in normal mode.

Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
You have to install using Compatibility Mode. I already told you that.
You can not fix the problem with the resolution until you install Linux Mint, make the necessary fixes which tells the system you are running using only the external monitor, and then reboot and run normally.
You can not run a live session of Linux Mint from the usb and get your monitor to work correctly. There are no drivers which will fix the problem.
It does not matter if it is only a broken cable or a broken laptop screen. The operating system sends the video message and it if the video parts (cable, screen) do not work properly, there is no way for the operating system to know that. The operating system does not test hardware; it just runs on the hard drive. You have to tell the operating system to use the external monitor because otherwise the operating system will use the default screen which is the laptop screen.

Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
SO THEY DO PROVIDE A DRIVER FOR LINUX which is good !
BUT : HOW do I get it to work with the installation ???
How do I do it ??
THATS THE QUESTION !
Driver TXT:
- If you want to support S5 WOL, you have to find
EXTRA_CFLAGS += -DRTL8152_S5_WOL
in the Makefile. Then, remove the first character '#", if it exists.
- For Fedora, you may have to run the following command after installing the
driver.
# dracut -f
- For Ubuntu, you may have to run the following command after installing the
driver.
# sudo depmod -a
# sudo update-initramfs -u
- Example of setting speed
2.5G before kernel v4.10
# ethtool -s eth0 autoneg on advertise 0x802f
2.5G for kernel v4.10 and later
# ethtool -s eth0 autoneg on advertise 0x80000000002f
# ethtool -s eth0 autoneg on advertise 0x002f (1G)
# ethtool -s eth0 autoneg on advertise 0x000f (100M full)
# ethtool -s eth0 autoneg on advertise 0x0003 (10M full)
- Disable center tap short
# make CONFIG_CTAP_SHORT=OFF modules
- Ring parameter
Show Ring parameter
# ethtool -g eth0
Changes the number of ring entries for the Rx ring.
# ethtool -G eth0 rx 100
HOW DO I "MAKE FILE " ??? AND HOW DO I IMPLEMENT THIS WHEN INSTALLING ?
REMEMBER: If I boot from a usbthumb I get the MESSAGE previously described and NOTHING
happens so I have to boot i compatibility -mode !
Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
Why are you yelling at us? Please stop yelling.
None of that is relevant because you have to install the operating system before you can install the driver. These commands reference code which is run when the system is booting. That means you can not install this driver on a live session (which is what it seems like you want to do).
You can only install the driver after you install the operating system.

I understand nothing of what you write; It's like you do not
read what I have written where I describe
what happens when I try to install
Linux MINT mate 20 on a laptop whose monitor
does not show anything because the cable between the motherboard
and the LCD monitor is broken but a device called:
PROKORD is connected to the laptop via USB-C and out of the PROKORD
a 4k 30Hz signal comes to an external monitor that SHOWS THE PICTURE
if you boot in COMPATIBILITY mode but if you
every now and then trying to install Linux MINT on the laptop it does not work
for the same ERROR MESSAGE comes up again!
So how to do it? That's the question !
Some kids who have realized that it is suddenly forbidden to use BOLD or CAPITALS?
You who grew up with the so-called social media column forms take and grow!
ANYONE MAY USE CAPITALS & BOLD in it
extent that they themselves consider NECESSARY for
to be heard for their questions.
FOCUS on the question instead of playing police - please!

Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
No, just the forum rules. There is nothing sudden about them, they have been in place for years.
Not on this forum. And also, personally, the more capitals I see, the less inclined to read and help I get. I may not be the only one.
Making your questions easyier to read would probably result in more/faster/better help. I recommend that you learn to use the quote tags so that it's easy to see which parts of your messages are new and which ones are quoted. Messy posts are confusing, and many people just don't want to solve such puzzles.
If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

If you do not understand anything of what I write, then you are not really in a position to tell me that I have not read what you have written. If you need clarification on something I write, just ask for more details.Vilsen wrote: ⤴Sun May 22, 2022 4:34 amI understand nothing of what you write; It's like you do not

You just said you "try to install" which means you are at the stage where Linux Mint is not installed. If Linux Mint were installed, you would be telling us what happened after you installed Linux Mint. You can not do that because you have not yet installed Linux Mint.
One only has the option for using Compatibility mode when installing Linux Mint. After Linux Mint is installed, there is no Compatibility Mode available. After you install Linux Mint, you can boot into Recovery Mode which uses the same
nomodeset
graphics parameter that Compatibility Mode does. However, Recovery Mode is not exactly the same as Compatibility Mode.Because you have not yet installed Linux Mint, you can not install the driver.
I have already answered this question multiple times. You have to install Linux Mint using Compatibility Mode. Many people have to install Linux Mint in Compatibility Mode. That's why the mode exists.Vilsen wrote: ⤴Sun May 22, 2022 4:34 am PROKORD is connected to the laptop via USB-C and out of the PROKORD

I first interacted with computers by punching holes in cards and placing that deck of punched cards into a feeder, so I was long past the stage of "growing up" when social media became common.
Here is the specific forum rule on the topic [6] Use Default Font Size and Colors which has as one of the bullet items "Refrain from using <CAPS> lock on posts - it gives one the impression the user is screaming."
I would really appreciate if you would read what I write instead of just repeatedly posting the same text over and over. I read it the first time. I know how to scroll back to a prior post if I need to refresh my memory. I suggest you re-read what has already been posted.

Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
Reading back through the topic and seeing your impatience at the beginning, I think it is possible you are assuming this process can be done in only one or two steps and you are trying to jump to the end too fast.
You have to do multiple steps because you need to work around the fact you can not install normally. You will have to install in Compatibility mode.
You have to work around the fact the laptop screen does not work so you will need to boot into Recovery Mode after installing and set up the external monitor as the primary screen. It is possible that Recovery Mode may not work for you to change those settings, but we will not know that until after you install Linux Mint. We may have to do something else to get the external monitor set up as the primary display.
It is only after you install Linux Mint and set up the external monitor as the primary that you can boot normally to let the Intel drivers install properly. If you find at that point in time that the resolution is not correct, then you can install the drivers you found. Installing those drivers is the very last step and can only be done after everything else is completed successfully.

I will try that but remember what I wrote initially that when booting
in compatibility mode and then clicking on the INSTALLation-icon
there was trouble AGAIN so maybe it does not work anyway ???
The PROKORD-thing connected to USB-C ( only 3 USB-C is on the laptop - nothing else !)
does the conversion to HDMI-output and 4k - screen connectivity
one might think there should be some driver for that thing ??

You never said you ignored the fact it looked silly and tried to install anyway so we do not know what happens when you install using compatibility mode.
You already posted there is a driver for it. The driver must be installed separately AFTER you install Linux Mint.

Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
I would not expect to see the exact same kernel timestamps and the exact same memory locations when you boot in compatibility mode as you would when you boot in regular mode. I believe that is the same image you attached in the first post when you told us you were booting in regular mode.
You said this works with Windows. I suggest you boot with Windows and check to see if the laptop has the most recent BIOS/UEFI installed.

Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
Certain docks do need DisplayLink drivers. However, the information for your dock does not indicate that it needs those drivers.
The drivers you mentioned earlier are actually drivers for the network port of the hub so it can have WOL (wake on lan) functionality and not for the ports used for display devices.
Where did you look that you found files and folders for Mint?

Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
The NVMe M.2 -drive is on only 500 GB so it is partitioned originally
by Windows 10 but I made 2 partitions for MINT : One /Root end one / Home
so in /Root I found all the files BUT:
I CAN ´ T get it too boot from GRUB !
I know I fixed some troublesome crash by booting from something called:
"SuperGRUB-boot" which was downloaded and installed on a USB-thumbdrive.
That way I got a list of all existing boot-possibilities and choose the right one.
I will give it a try but remember: This laptop has been invaded by Microsoft Windows :
It is NOT possible to get into the BIOS /UEFI-STUP by any key on the keyboard ;
Instead you have to go through multiple strange ways in menus and so forth to get to
a choice that lets you RE-start the computer from an USB-drive.
Windows has always been a pain in the neck and many of us is going straight to some
flavor of LINUX because of being a "hostage" of Microsoft for decades.
Why even bother and I why not just delete it from the laptop ? WELL, some
important programs ARE NOT AVAILABLE in LINUX-mode !!!
Thats the only reason

Here are directions I found [Notebook/Desktop/AIO] How to enter the BIOS configuration.
The directions for getting into BIOS without going through Windows are in the General situation (Before booting) section.
Maybe that will work for you. While the computer isn’t powered on yet, press and hold the [F2] button of the keyboard, and then press the [Power button] (Do not release F2 button until the BIOS configuration display.).

Re: I am trying to install Mint 20.3 on an ASUS UX930U laptop
WOW !!! I am grateful for you tip !
So many changes over the years concerning which key to press to
get to the BIOS-setup. Allthought it seems to called UEFI now for some reason.
Not much to change by the way:
I can however change bootorder to the USB-disk so I can use SUPERGRUB.
Intel HD Graphics 620 - is there a driver for that to be found for LINUX MINT ?
Or is it all dependent on the PROKORD ?
I was going to show picture but : "FILE TO LARGE" appears all the time .
Why ?
Can anyone tell my WHY I can´t show pictures in this forum ?

The file is probably too large. Keep it below 200 KB.
