External Monitors not showing up.

Post by cybershifter »

This may be a dock issue, or may be a display issue, not sure. Or a computer! It's all fair game at this point. So, here's the background. I have an HP Thunderbolt dock that I use to connect my Dell XPS 13 to my two HDMI screens. They are ASUS VC279's. The dock is an HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G2. Here's the kicker, it worked before, and now suddenly it doesn't. I unhooked it to use the laptop elsewhere, plugged it back in, no dice. Here's the inxi:

A computer with a thunderbolt dock is new to me to begin with, and this computer is new to me. So I'm kind of at a loss.

I should also note, the computer sees the dock when I plug it in, at least as much as it needs to charge it.

Have you tried restarting X Server (Ctl-Alt-Backspace) or rebooted since you plugged the dock back in?

The information from the last person with that dock whom I helped Data sheet for HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 with Audio Module indicates it does not have HDMI ports. I presume you are using DP-HDMI cables.

The latest Dell XPS 13 7390 System BIOS is version 1.14.1.

I see in version 1.8.0 it mentions "- Fixed the issue where the system stops responding for a few seconds when a USB 3.1 hub or Type-C hub is connected." Maybe that somehow is a factor in this issue.

Sorry, I got sick AND started a new job this week. I tried rebooting, but I didn't try restarting X server. I can also try updating the BIOS. I probably need to do that anyway. I bought the laptop from Backmarket, it's a couple years old. So I'll give that a try too. Thanks! I'll report back what happens.
