Artifact issues (SOLVED)

Post by Len99 »

Hi All,
I have artifacts appearing mainly when using the menu bar (high lighter) selector within the "selection bar" itself as it moves up and down, also in the link selector of firefox bookmarks menus. It appears no matter what "theme" I use. My desktop is LM cinnamon 20.3, but there doesnt appear to be a problem with my graphics card. Just wondering where else I can look for a fix for this issue, though not a big problem really, but it has only appeared with this update from 20.2.

For some reason, it appears the renderer is not loaded.

Please supply the complete inxi -Fxxxrz so we can get a better idea of your hardware and what might have happened.

Did you recently install Linux Mint? If so, did you verify the ISO? How to verify ISO images

If you have the install usb/dvd handy, please boot to a live session of Linux Mint and check the output of inxi -Gx to see if the renderer is loading on it. If it does, then this might have been an installation issue and a re-install might clear it.

If this is not a recent install, lets check the Xorg log to see if it might have some clues as to why the renderer is not loaded. X Server runs the graphics in Linux Mint. Please use this command in a terminal to upload the X Server log file to termbin:

Code: Select all

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | nc termbin.com 9999
It will return with a url address that you can post in your next reply.

I do not know if it might have relevance to this issue, but keep in mind that the Latitude E7250/7250 Drivers indicates the most recent BIOS is A24 so your system could be having issues because it has been so long since that was updated. However, it appears the updates are only available for Windows.

Hi SMG,

Thank you Sir you are a genius!. because the Linux Mint had been freshly installed around 2 weeks ago, so I re downloaded the iso and checked the sha file as shown, made a new live USB with that iso and ran the command you supplied to check the renderer (not that I knew what to look for previously)and it was now working or at least it is different to the installed check output..... as shown below.
So now I will re install my LM and hope it fixes the problem with the slowness and the artifact problem. AGAIN MANY THANKS!!!

mint@mint:~$ inxi -Gx

Let us know how it goes.

Usually, Intel graphics does not cause an issue, but I have seen others run into the same issue with the renderer not loading. Usually, downloading a new ISO (sometimes from a different mirror) corrects the issue.

Hi SMG, Thank You Sir'ette, you are a Genius "period"! the re install indeed seems to have fixed the issues..... and please forgive my blindness as I have now noticed the "moderator" tag for your name........... and I have learnt something about LM over this issue (even though a very little) but it was a good experience. Thanks again!
Cheers Len
