Second monitor not detected

Greetings!

I have two monitors connected to the GPU. One via DVI-D and one via DisplayPort. On windows they work correctly both, but on linux DVI-D doesnt have signal.

How can I fix it?

Welcome to the forum, Wadzim.

The xrandr output indicates both monitors are being seen by the operating system.

Please open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click Copy, and paste the results into a reply window here so we can see how Linux Mint views your hardware. From what little you posted, it does not seem you have your system updated. Please go to Update Manager and make sure to run the updates available there.

When reading xrandr output, *= current resolution and += preferred resolution. Both monitors are seen by the system.

Are you getting a message on the screen saying "no signal" or is the screen just blank?

The graphics section is showing two ports active and two monitors.

they both work until the mint's loading screen appears (on the second I get "signal not detected")

Both monitors are showing in the Display app so both monitors are being detected by the operating system. That normally means the operating system is seeing and sending information to the monitor.

If you are getting a "signal not detected" on the monitor, that is often an issue with the monitor hardware or one of the monitor's settings.

By the way, we're all volunteers here. We work on issues as our schedules permit.

Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu so I would expect the results to be the same.

Have you tried adjusting settings on your monitor?

I will check later to see if your GPU has the same capabilities in Linux that it does in Windows.

There is no special settings, I can toggle between d-sub and dvi, it doesnt help. So I tried something, I rebooted in recovery mode, and second monitor was working but like a mirror. I made notes in recovery mode.

There are no graphics drivers loaded when you boot in recovery mode.

Did you try mirror mode when booting normally? I can not tell for sure from the screenshots, but it appears you were using "Join Displays" mode.

I did a search on R9 380 issues and found [Dualscreen] "No signal" issues when booting with DVI and HDMI screens both plugged in which is an older topic (and thus an older driver), but maybe the suggestions in it might help get around this issue.

when booting with the HDMI cable unplugged, after plugging it in, screen switching is not buggy anymore.[/quote]While you do not have HDMI, you do have two different types of connections.

This is another older bug DVI-D monitor connected to DVI-I output not detected (regression from kernel 4.14.32 to kernel 4.16.0 using graphic core) where I think using the kernel parameter amdgpu.dc=0 worked, but I do not know the current default state of that parameter to know if it still works with the current kernel. However, we'll leave the info here in case that turns out to be something we might want to try. I suggest trying the two options from the first report to see if they help.

Try using kernel parameters to force the monitor to work.

Use this command to open the grub file: xed admin:///etc/default/grub

Change this line:

To this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash video=DVI-D-2:e drm.edid_firmware=DVI-D-2:edid/1920x1080.bin"

Then update grub and reboot: sudo update-grub

You tried all the options. The second link was about modifying grub and using the kernel parameter.

See if roblm's suggestion works.

Your xrandr output shows the BenQ on DVI-D-1 so that might be another option to try if the DVI-D-2 does not work.
(Note: roblm's suggestion adds two kernel parameters to the existing ones in grub and both mention DVI-D-2.)

this has been bugging me for over a year but I can confirm roblm's suggestion worked for me, just had to change to DVI-D-1 and a different resolution to reflect my setup.
