27" iMac mid 2011, AMD Radeon HD 6770M, 88GB Ram, Quad Core 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5.
I ran Linuxmint 20.1 64bit live session on the above because I suspected the Raedon GPU was dead. Well known issue that if the GPU is dead,
the system will boot and display video but hangs before login. I was able to boot Linux live session and had video, even watched YouTube. Either the GPU is not dead or Linux is using some minimal video chip or else the processor is producing the video. Any idea about how Linux is running the video? Considering installing on the internal drive or running from external USB drive. This machine is a freebie. I would never consider buying a Mac - highly unreliable hardware that is very difficult to repair.

Re: Radeon_Dead
Everything looks good
Re: Radeon_Dead
radeon unloaded? What does that mean? It's not using the Raedon?
Re: Radeon_Dead
It means:
Code: Select all
driver: ati,radeon
unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa
Re: Radeon_Dead
Sounds like the GPU is good but they are telling me it is bad so I can spend up to $200 for the part plus 2+ hours replacing it or buy a new Mac. Will fool around w/their system restore to see if it will boot to the Mac OS. If it boots to Mac I might dual boot it with Linux. It's that or Linux all the way.
Re: Radeon_Dead
how do I interpret glmark2 Score? Is it relative to particular GPU being stress tested?
AMD Radeon HD 6770M
glmark2 Score: 1967
AMD Radeon HD 6770M
glmark2 Score: 1967
