Why does sensors -u report RX6700xt gpu fan's speed zero when I see fan running?

Post by okalexm »

Does anyone with this GPU get a non-zero fan speed for their GPU?

Discussion of similar/same problem in other distributions where a "patch" fixed the problem in some higher than 5.15 kernels.

Try it with a newer kernel sudo apt-get install linux-oem-22.04c.

I get the same thing with Psensor, and I already have .oem. kernel
I just never worried about it, who cares anyway?
the fans speed up when needed, I can hear them

Sure. Not a big deal, but makes it harder to tune fan operation for cooling v quiet balance.

Was hoping for someone that had an easy fix, but will just add to my bug list.
Thanks!

My hearing is down 30 dB

so, the fans running could sound like a Tornado  and I would not hear them, unless I was seeking out the Fan Noise.

on my 15 year old Desktop, those Fans really get wound up, and I can hear them easily.
My laptop? nada.
