[SOLVED] Wide screen display resolution missing in LM 20.3

Post by Bobo-the-Cat »

In an LM 20.3 install in Virtualbox, I can find the display for 16:10 which is 1920x1200, but not the option for wide screen which is 1920x1080. This option was available in LM 19.3, but does not appear to be available in 20.3! Oddly - it is available in LM 21.1 - but there are other reasons why I cannot use this yet!

Note that although I actually have a 16:10 screen; - as I wish to be able to view the bottom panels for both the host and guest computers at the same time, the only way of being able to do this easily is to select 16:9 for the guest, so that there is a bit of extra space at the bottom of the screen. If I use the 16:10 - then I end up with scroll bars! This worked perfectly in LM19.3. Can 16:9 resolution for a 24 inch screen be added to LM 20.3 - and if so, how?

What is the output of

Code: Select all

xrandr
You have all three versions of Linux Mint (19.3, 20.3, 21.1) currnetly using the same Virtualbox version? I ask because sometimes available screen options are a function of Virtualbox settings rather than of Linux Mint settings.

I have now made this work. For some reason when I installed the Guest LM20.3, I cannot remember a prompt to install the Guest Additions. I have now installed these, and several restarts later - the auto-resize screen option, which was hitherto greyed out, is no longer greyed out and the wide screen option is now available and functioning, and displayed in xrandr output. Thanks for your help.

I suspected the issue was related to the VM. We have a Virtual Machines which is a better place for this types of issue. I'll move the topic there so others with a similar issue will have an easier time of finding it.

Please go to your first post in this topic, click the pencil icon, and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the title so others know there is a solution in the topic.
