Linux Mint 21 - desktop is smaller than the screen

Post by KokoC »

After upgrade of LM 20.3 to 21.1 I've notice black lines on the desktop.

I've tried:
* change of the resolution - 16:10 and 16:9
* reset display settings
* checked drivers - nothing is shown

Before while using 20.3 - all was good.
Did research on the web - didn't find anything close to this problem.

So I've tested with external monitor - screen size on the external is fine.

Also I did:
Change the Video memory in bios from 256 to 512 - no change.
Reset the bios - no change.
Actually the bios display has the same limitations.

Finally I've watched few videos on this model in the YT - Lenovo e590 lenovo.
Notice something similar on most.
So maybe it was always strange like that...
and I've notice it only because the new courser in LM 21.1.

P.S. read that hardware updates might cause something similar.
This one it has hardware upgrade 8 GB -> 16 GB.

The operating system graphic drivers are not being used in the BIOS. If the issue is happening in the BIOS then it is likely a hardware issue. Perhaps there is a loose/shifted connection somewhere.

If you didn't think you had the problem with LM20.3, you could check with a live session using an LM20.3 install usb to see if it is there.

I think you are right about:
The operating system graphic drivers are not being used in the BIOS. If the issue is happening in the BIOS then it is likely a hardware issue.
Will check the hardware in future.

The first time I notice the problem was after the upgrade.
I saw that bottom panel had text which is not visible. First letter was missing.
So I thought that problem is related to the upgrade.

Will update if I find anything.

P.S. I'll give a try on the live LM20.3.
The current installation is fully encrypted. But I don't think that there is connection on that.
Only the starting screen for unlocking the encryption changed.

Cheers
