Can't get Desktop Effects to work (IBM Thinkpad R51)

Post by ganemus » Wed Sep 29, 2010 1:47 am

Hello everyone! First time Linux Mint user here, just got Linux Mint Isadora working on my IBM Thinkpad R51 and everything seems to be up and running except the visual effects. I know that the graphics card for this laptop is an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 and I think I downloaded the proper driver for it, but I still can't get it to work. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or tell me if this brand of laptop can even support visual effects? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Well, the GMA950, as it's also called, is old and slow. Don't expect much of it.

To tell that you have 3D acceleration, open a terminal and type

Code: Select all

glxinfo | grep direct
If it says yes, you should be able to enable the effects. I don't use this myself, so I cant really tell you more about it.
