Bea only sees resolutions up to 1024*768?

Post by Darkelve » Sat Jan 06, 2007 7:57 am

Hi,

first and foremost, I've been using Bea for about a day now. It is lovely!

However, I have a 19 inch TFT screen that supports 1280*1024 resolution @75hz , but I cannot pick this value in screen resolution.

Before I installed nvidia drivers (I have Geforce 6600GT card) highest value I could pick was 1024*768 @60hz.

After installing the drivers, highest value STILL is 1024*768, but now it says 1024*768 @75hz.

How can I tell Mint/Ubuntu/Gnome/ to use 1280*1024 @75hz?

I already tried the advice in another post, but I could not get the program he posted to work.

I wish Ubuntu had some kind of screen config tool, like Sax2 in SuSe. I don't really mind manual fixes, but I don't know where to start!

Oh, and, hello to all forum members! :)

it is solved now!

Hi,

I searched on the official Ubuntu forums, and I did what someone advised there, to type from a terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
and then follow the instructions there.

It was a bit confusing since you have to know a LOT about your own computer and some questions are very technical. And the first time around I used <enter> to select the resolutions in the list, while you have to use <space>.

However, everything is fine now and I'm running in a nice 1280*1024 screen now, with 3D accelleration B)

However I don't think I will install XGL, it is nice but I'm afraid it will give problems with crashes, like I had under Fedora Core 6... :-(

Linux Mint tastes good! :)

You don't need XGL ... AIGLX (a "competing" project with the same goals) is already there in the X.org drivers (the GUI sub-system, also known as "X Windows" or "X11"). Check this thread, browse down to "Issue #7 - AIGLX, Beryl + Emerald eye candy":
http://lt.k1011.nutime.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=872#872

EDIT - I forgot to mention that there is now a more comfortable possibility to have this eye-candy stuff configured: mint3D ... Please follow this thread: http://lt.k1011.nutime.de/forum/viewtop ... =1334#1334

If you don't understand something or have troubles feel free to ask.

hmm.. mint3D is not released yet. What people got was just a beta of the hardware detection part of it... the script detects the card, settings etc.. but it doesn't set up anything.

I'll come with a beta of mint3d 1.0 soon.
