Setting up an external monitor on a netbook

I'm using LM10 on a Samsung N210 netbook and I'd like to hook the system on a Samsung T200HD monitor.
I connect the two through a VGA cable and the external monitor is recognized by grandr. However, the monitor itself stays blank and keeps saying "no input".
I have the feeling I'm missing something really basic here! Any ideas?

lumi I don't have a N210 , but I have installed Mint on many netbooks. My guess is that everything maybe working, but you will need to use either a key combination or a special function key to toggle the ext monitor on. There will be three modes. Netbook screen only, ext screen only and both. Check the original handbook to see what the default combination was. It may still work. If not you will have to explore options in grandr or another utility. hope this helps..... lanser

Unluckily I tried that but no luck :( I should specify that the monitor config utility doesn't recognize the monitor as a Samsung, it just says "unknown monitor". Anything setting I should mess with? Like xorg.conf?

Have you checked the radio button for On on the external monitor page of the config screen? You can turn both the laptop and external monitors on or off, and either have the displays mirrored or move them around. Having both mirrored will usually result in a low resolution, so I usually turn my laptop display off when using an external monitor. Until the radio button is checked for the external monitor, it will receive no signal from the netbook. If you've already done that, then you need to check more config options, and I'm not sure where to start, because it has always worked on my Asus EEE.

Yes, the radio button is on!
Weird thing is, I can't select PC as a source from the list on the menu of the Samsung monitor itself.
