Can't enable 3d support on Katya with Intel card

Post by mchojrin »

Hi:

I've got a Lenovo g550 system running Katya. I noticed some annoying flickering when playing videos and then, trying to enable compiz effects I realized that 3d support isn't working.

Here is some info: inxi -Gx:

Code: Select all

Graphics: Card Intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller X.Org 1.10.2 Res: 1366x768@60.0hz
GLX Renderer N/A GLX Version N/A Direct Rendering N/A
lspci | grep -i vga:

Code: Select all

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
compiz-check:

Code: Select all

 Distribution: Linux Mint 11

 Desktop environment: GNOME
Graphics chip: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

 Rendering method: AIGLX

At least one check had to be skipped:
 Error: vesa driver in use
I tried xorg -configure but got nothing new... Any ideas? Thanks!

Edit: Finally got to change the rendering method to AIGLX using Xorg -configure, but still can't do anything about the vesa driver...

Hi:

I eventually found out that changing the rendering mode didn't help much in my case... what I'm worried about is the display of hd videos...

that be a yes

go here

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/

your looking for

linux-image-2.6.38-10-generic

linux-headers-2.6.38-10

linux headers-2.6.38-10-generic

install all 3 packages for ether x32 or x64 based on your OS.

Wont hurt to use synaptic and select reinstall for the intel drivers after ether.

Well, it seems to have worked, thanks. I had to do a little extra stuff, like creating a new xorg configuration, which, I don't understand why, was putting some extra screens, monitors and cards in the xorg.conf file... anyway, once I got that cleared I run compiz-check again and I got driver: intel and rendering mode AIGLX, which seems to be ok.

Now I have a smaller issue, I activated the effects using the compiz icon, but I still can't use the app switch and stuff.

Thanks a lot!

compiz can be funny

just delete the compiz configs out of your home folder found in

.compiz
.config
.gconfig

log out and back in and setup compiz fresh.

ha, well, it's coming along... I activated compiz following the steps you pointed out and usign the compiz-icon, now I have two problems: :)

1 - When I logout and back in compiz is not activated (I guess I should add it to the apps at startup, right?)
2 - When I activate it using the compiz icon I loose the window borders

Thanks. I did that, but still, no luck :(

It's really weird the way this works, when I first configured this effects they worked fine, but when I logged out and back in, it was like compiz was not running... I'll try restarting X and see...

I tried that command and it worked at first, but then I got some really strange behaviors, like I couldn't move the windows around or resize them... anyway, I don't want to be abusive here, so I think I'll leave it alone for now. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi:

Here I am again... It seems that some of the latests updates broke my working configuration. I usually apply every update as soon as it comes, perhaps I shouldn't do so... anyway, compiz is not running on my computer again. I run compiz-check and here is what I found:

Code: Select all

Gathering information about your system...

 Distribution: Linux Mint 11
http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_katya.php
 Desktop environment: GNOME
Graphics chip: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
 Driver in use: intel
 Rendering method: AIGLX

Checking if it's possible to run Compiz on your system...

 Checking for texture_from_pixmap... [FAIL]
Checking for non power of two support... [FAIL]
Checking for composite extension... [ OK ]
 Checking for FBConfig... [FAIL]
 Checking for hardware/setup problems... [SKIP]

At least one check had to be skipped:
Error: Unable to detect maximum 3D texture size
Any ideas? Thanks!
