Mint 11 - Dual Monitor Problems

Post by Urlauber »

Hi,

i have a Problem using two monitors with Mint 11. At the moment both monitors show the same content, if i change it to use both monitors they are just showing weird things and i have to wait a few seconds until it automatically changes back. i can draw the mouse on both monitors but i just can see many colours and boxes.

My linux knowledge is not very good, so the search function gave me no result.

I have an ATI Radeon 9500 Card with a VGA and an DVI Output that i use both, and two identical Samsung SyncMaster 2494 Monitors.
Within Windows XP and 7 everything works fine.

Code: Select all

Seems like you use opensource driver (oh, i've check here and it says that "ATI/AMD dropped Catalyst support for these cards in Catalyst 9-4. These cards are supported with the legacy ATI 9-3 Catalyst release, but you MUST use a kernel 2.6.28 (or earlier) and Xserver 1.5 (or earlier). For example, you can use Catalyst 9-3 if you're running Ubuntu 8.04 or Debian Lenny/5.0. Open source support is good and 3D is still improving")

I don't know if Radeon driver offering multi display option, (I use catalyst driver on my Katya, and it works on my 6310)
I think that was something inside the opensource driver, if you want to use Catalyst driver, just like the wiki says, you must use a kernel 2.6.28 (or earlier) and Xserver 1.5 (or earlier). either downgrade or wait for the opensource driver update..

maybe you can check here, (I don't really understand what it says, but it says that dual link DVI was done)
