Are you talking about writing zeros to your hard drive? What are you using to do it?

I am using mint 5 live disk with the command dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda. There was no progress monitor and I was not sure if I had done things right, shortly after posting my question the process completed. Mint is now loaded again and working like a dream. Thank you for your reply
