Why 'Rafaela' and not an 'S' name?

Post by Hecubus » Sun Jul 05, 2015 1:56 pm

If 17.0 is named Qiana and 17.1 is Rebecca why doesn't 17.2 have an 'S' name (ending with an 'a' naturally)?

Side question: Has anyone ever met anyone named Rafaela?

Rebecca and Rafaela names were announced and explained on the blog. Answering one of your questions, though you got it the wrong way around (17.2 shouldn't have started with S, 17.1 and 17.2 should have started with Q based on history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_L ... se_history)

Rebecca: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2688
Rafaela: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2802

Rafaela (but also your misspelled Raphaela) seems to be a pretty common enough name, in some parts of the world at least.

So the answer seems to be they were looking to get off of Q because it would have been too difficult to come up with Q names throughout the LTS.

Would have preferred Raquel or Raquelita, but I'm partial as I once had a girlfriend with that name. 8)

I knew a Raquel once - but that was just her, err, stage name. Turned out her real name was Candy (now that's ironic). BtW, I noticed your user name, so I have to ask: Are you from Washington County or around there? If so... Was that former girlfriend's name actually a... nickname? If so, it's truly a small world after all  .

I'm guessing that they just goofed. Or else they're really, really lazy  . First result of a random web-search ("women's names that start with q") gave me a list of 39 names:

If Clem insists on using women's names and going in some kind of alphabetical order, point-releases ought to all have the same beginning name as the initial release. But here's a thought: Clem, how about "bucking the trend" that seems to be prevalent in the distro-development world these days and calling Mint 18...

Mint 18?

It'd be a lot easier to remember.

If I'm on Sandra (et cetera)...

...I really ought to be in bed, not sitting at the computer    .

Yes but the names also have to end with 'a'.
