Satan in Linux Mint 17.2 Xfce

Post by nwmntr » Mon Oct 26, 2015 3:32 pm

Downloaded an iso last night as I'm trying to load a Mint distro on an older cmptr. So far it's been unsuccessful: I've gotten almost to the end of the "copying files" bar, but it stops process and never resumes.

So, I fire up Firefox and go look for some direction, try a couple of things on the terminal, click out of it and FF, and all of a sudden the LM desktop fades out and I'm instantly looking at a black screen with orange-red .gif flames streaming up from the bottom of the window and a very evil looking personage pictured from about mid-chest up, centered in the window just above the flames.

What the heck?

I hit the enter key and it disappears and the LM desktop reappears.

What the heck?

I'm totally serious here.

Pics or it didn't happen ;)

I don't even know how you managed it, you tried to install on an old comp, but it didn't work, but you got a desktop and firefox somehow, along with a terminal, what did I miss to connect the dots?

I've actually seen this in 17,2 Mate--it's one of the xscreensavers--xflame, to be precise. I'll agree that it was creepy!

Just switch to a different screensaver. There might be a way to remove it if it really bothers you, but I'm not sure how. I just don't use it, myself. :)

Here's a pic for all you unbelievers...

Umm, live session?
When I give opinions, they are my own. Not necessarily those of any other Linux Mint developer or the Linux Mint project as a whole.

What's the world coming to when a chap can't take five minutes out for a relaxing smoke of his pipe amongst the infernal flames of Hades without being accused of being a fallen angel?

Call an exorcist and purge your computer with fire! After that extinguish the flames with holy water.

Or just install Slackware!
Then you'd have a matching 'set'.

Um, sorry about that, people. I forgot that was still lingering in the weird section of my mind.
Then again, most sections of my mind are kinda weird. :)

You got a bargain. Well, compared to some other "religions", anyway.

...And, just as I post this, my iTunes library decides by random to play Devo's "Beautiful World". How's that for slack?

I have heard that sometimes the slideshow function of the installation program (ubiquity) can cause problems like that.
You kill the slideshow before starting the installation, with this command in a terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-mint
