wow, you have been busy. If you have hardware which needs very specific software support ("old") then maybe the Arch option is the best - you could build the OS up from the basics. So meanwhile I'll stay with LM13 on this backup machine until I can find a newer distro. Perhaps I should add a virus/bot checker to help with security?
The other option is to stick with what is working and stay on LM13. If you do, then minimise your exposure to the internet. I have an old iBook from 2004 which runs very well with the OSX 10.5 which is from 2007 or 2008. No updates since about 2010 so you could consider it very insecure. I removed the web browsers and turned off as many services as I can. It just runs iTunes and nothing else...
