Since it is following naming conventions, then it is going with the alphabet, so the "O" and "M" won't be for some time.

Personally, I wouldn't mind it if Mint 8 skipped the letters needed so that it's 1st letter and the letter of the Ubuntu version it's based on were the same. I'd make it easier to remember what kernel it was based on.

I wouldn't mind if Mint 8 skipped the requirement that the name end in the letter "a" because "Helena" and "Hanna" and "Helga" and names like that don't seem that great to me. But whatever, it really doesn't matter.

What about Harmony?

Cliche I know, but it's elegant nonetheless.

Harmony would be good. The implications of that name are profound.

Other names I think would be cool to use:
Helen, or Helene, or even Hele'n, but please not Helena. I personally like the Iliad reference to Helen, and Mint should be beautiful if it is anything desirable.
Hermione. With the obvious Harry Potter reference.

When Mint gets to 'M', Maria needs to be SKIPPED. Cue "Sound of Music" jokes. Pu-lease, any problem and it'll be "how do you solve X problem with Maria?" all over the place.

I've only been around Mint since Daryna, so I don't know why the name has to end in an 'a'. But if it has to end in an 'a', I suppose Helena is easier on the tongue than Hypatia. My 2nd daughter would probably vote against Hanna, as her own similar name is spelled with the anagram (aka the "hannagram").

Firstly, sorry OldMarcus because i had not see your open topic - May - 05/2009

My vote goes to " H E L L E N A "
Greek origin

I have no choice on my entire family blood tree names - Hebrew - British - Italian - Brazilian

Clem, has said the names should come from Old Rome, Greece, Carthage (origin)
It's already a tradition for The Linux Mint Editions Names - code names

Best Wishes
Roberto

+1 for Hera (someone suggested early on in this thread). I like that name for three reasons.

1. Cool Mythology Reference
2. Cool Battlestar Galactica reference
3. Mint 8 Hera just sounds cool (to me)

+1 for Helena. Beautiful name with a great history background.

I don't like Hanna.

EDIT: Shouldn't this post be moved to the "Chat about Mint" section?

Seriously, all these other "H" names in this thread sound like they should be OGRE's. I don't want to be using this OS and have to refer to it as some ogre of a name. And I certainly don't want to be subjected to the hassles of the bugs it would bring of having such a name.

Hanna is a very nice name for a girl.
That's very subjective.

Helena is a beautiful name, IMHO, and the fact is that it has a nice history background.
