suspicious bug report response email

Post by brvcf »

So I submitted a bug report to what I though was the official channel. (don't ask me the details because I don't remember but I think I just followed the links on linuxmint.com until I got to a page where I could submit.

Here's the reply I got:
From: noreply@salesforce.com [mailto:noreply@salesforce.com] On Behalf Of mintcustomersupport@intuit.com
Sent: Tuesday, November 14, 2017 8:40 PM
To: xxxxxxxxx@xxxx.xxx
Subject: RE: bug - Update Policy window [ ref:_00DE0a8TL._50041IRKhw:ref ]

Hello Peter,

Thank you for contacting Mint.com!

I'm sorry but I was unable to locate your Mint account using the email address you provided. The search is not returning any results. In order for us to continue to troubleshoot the issue, can you provide any other email address that you may have used to log in to Mint?

We will look forward to your response.
?
Best,
Pat

ref:_00DE0a8TL._50041IRKhw:refeh went to https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint.
The reply is from a salesforce.com address on behalf of an address at intuit.com, and the referenced mint.com website is trying to get me to sign up for some kind of money manager service from Intuit.

On top of that, the email I used is the one I have registerd at linuxmint.com

Maybe this is legit but it sure is confusing. ???

Intuit have what appears to be a legitimate software product called 'Mint,' but it's nothing whatsoever to do with Linux Mint. I suggest you have made a mistake and sent your bug report to the wrong place.

I don't remember doing a search rather than going through linuxmint.com, but that's what must have happened. I caution people against searching for support contacts all the time. This time I apparently got to a legitimate site for another product, but wha usually happns is someone searchs for help with Windows or their HP printer or something, and instead of gtting to the manufacturers web sit they get to some third party site and get some questionable "tech support" usually involving a large payment...
