[Solved] What happened to the Mint 19 download checksums?

Post by jharris1993 »

Greetings!

First and foremost - I do not wish to complain about the distributions. I am amazed at all the hard work Clem and everyone else puts in to make them happen. Even at their worst, it is a herculean task that deserves our respect and thanks.

My question is this: Where are the MD5 and SHA1/256 checksums for the Mint 19 downloads?

Previous releases had the checksums prominently listed with each class of download, (Cinnamon, MATE, etc. etc. etc.) Even though I can verify a burned CD/DVD during install, having the checksums allowed me to verify that the image download was good before I committed the image to hard media, saving me much angst.

Equally important, if I save the images to my file server, I save the image checksums too - this way I can verify that the image hasn't been corrupted in storage.

Though I am sure you folks have excellent reasons for what you do, the absence of download checksums puzzles me.

What say ye?

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they ain't.

Like I said, my eyeglasses need cleaning!

Seriously - I remember the checksums being at the top of the page, before the list of release platforms and mirrors. Not sure, but didn't they redesign the download page? Not that I'm complaining - this way it doesn't look like the stock page WordPress, Drupal, or whoever provides. But it was a tad confusing for this old geezer.

Thanks!

My wife complains about the same thing. I made the mistake of leaving one of my W.E.B. (Griffith?) "Semper Fi!" books out and my wife found it. She found some of the salty quarter-deck comments that all Marines make, and now she tells me that "I can't find my own @$$ with both hands and a map!"

Serves me right.
